To Choose

When you choose, you are deciding one or the other.
No in between. Choose between, pick one or the other.
Choose, decide, pick, select, appoint, select, pick, decide, choose.
Turn toward, turn away, agree, disagree, consent, deny, smile, frown.

When you choose, you answer
“Who am I?”

And when you answer, you know the sort of person you’ve become.
The sort of person you are.
One that says yes. One that says no.
One that chooses.

Chooses between:
Helping. Seeing. Caring. Recognizing. Feeling. Loving. Protecting. Hearing. Acknowledging. Sharing. Feeding. Speaking. Listening. Responding. Saving. Acting. Acting. Acting.

Who are you? Who do you want to be?

Think about it, then choose.

Humans

How can we hate each other when we’re all trying to do the same thing?

We hate each other. We ignore. Neglect. Beat. Rape. Kill each other.

But we all want the same thing.

We refuse to help. Refuse to notice. To stop. To say something. To hold accountable.

But we all want the same thing.

To be free of fear. To end mistreatment. Is to end it in others. Then it will happen in yourself.

To have peace is to recognize your peace and share it. To be accepting. To be kind.

We want to eat and feel safe. Why would you you use violence and justifications to starve and threaten others when all they want is the same thing?

No one will go without. There’s enough.

But we take it. We hide it. We horde it. We dangle it over the heads of others to feel what?

Bigger? Better? Stronger?

It is a display of weakness. It is Pathetic. And misinformed.

Attending Creative Writing Bootcamp with the amazing and talented Johnny Worthen. I’ve been in a funk for months. This group of writers has inspired me to get back to it. Thank you @luwriters and @johnnyworthen for your feedback, patience, and enthusiasm. 🙂

Dogs

Dogs are the best. Especially my guy. He’s floopy and gangly. He thinks he’s a goat or deer. He hogs my new super soft blanket. He sneaks in the kitchen to steal food. He tugs on the leash and insists on sniffing every rock and blade of grass. He jumps through hoops. He plays hide and seek. He curls up in a ball and he gets real small. He sweet and a cuddler at my feet.
